Because it senses it’s made of trash, so it just tries to go home, I guess. Why is Woody chasing it and preventing it from disposing of itself? Because Woody is chivalrous and Bonnie is very upset about it. Also because Woody has to do something. He actually says that in the film, which I think basically underscores the weakness of the plot and its very obvious fabrication. But the question also arises as to what constitutes a toy. My brother and I used to play with sock puppets and pieces of cloth tied together because we didn’t have many toys. Did those loosely attached socks and scraps of cloth count as toys? Or would they if we gave them names?
